If you love mango and Thailand, you are about to be very happy dear! Just sweet frozen mango, creamy coconut milk, and a little honey blended together into pure tropical happiness! This Thai mango smoothie is one of the simplest and most refreshing drinks you can make in your kitchen!
What Is Thai Mango Smoothie
A Thai mango smoothie is a fresh fruit smoothie sold by street vendors and beach stalls across Thailand, and I’m a huge fan and get many of them every time I visit Thai Hubby’s family.
Some versions also include coconut milk, and it’s one of my fav ways to have it! The coconut milk pairs perfectly with the mango and makes it feel like you are sipping up my favorite Thai dessert, mango sticky rice with coconut sauce!

Behind the Thai Mango Smoothie Recipe
Thai Hubby and my 2 year old at the time were building a tower of wet sand as tall as my toddler while I lounged nearby, smiling at my handsome, tan Thai boys as the gentle emerald waters of Ao Nang in Krabi, Thailand lapped against the shore behind us.
I was happily daydreaming when I noticed a European couple strolling down the beach holding clear plastic cups with bright pink straws. Inside the cups was a vibrant yellow drink that looked like pure sunshine.
A Thai mango smoothie!
At the same moment, my baby girl I was pregnant with kicked my rib, reminding me that I probably needed to hydrate too. And what better way to hydrate than with a Thai mango smoothie while relaxing on a beach in Thailand?
So I told the boys I was heading off on a smoothie mission and would be right back. They barely looked up and waved me on before diving right back into their sand tower construction.
I raced across the fine white sand, which felt hot like coals under my feet. I immediately regretted leaving my flip flops back in our hotel room when we had walked down to the beach.
Luckily I did not have to run far before spotting the smoothie stand just up from the beach near the road.
I ordered a mango smoothie in Thai, and the woman behind the counter gave me a big smile. She probably wondered how this foreign girl knew Thai, even though my accent was far from perfect.
She quickly tossed freshly sliced ripe yellow mango into the blender, added a little simple syrup and ice, and that was it.
The blender roared to life, turning the mango into icy, golden refreshment right before my eyes. Then she poured it into a clear cup, popped in a pink straw, and handed it to me. I gave her 40 baht, a little over a dollar.
I thanked her and skipped happily back toward the beach, taking tiny sips and secretly hoping my refreshing smoothie would somehow last forever.
When I returned, the smoothie instantly pulled the boys out of their sand building world. They gathered around to take sips, amazed at how delicious it was and laughing about how cheap it was compared to what a smoothie would cost on a touristy beach in the States.
That simple moment of all of us sharing that mango smoothie on the beach has become one of my favorite memories from the trip.
And while I cannot quite recreate the warm ocean breeze or the sound of waves in my log cabin in the mountains, I can blend up a Thai mango smoothie, sit on our front porch, and dream about those slow, sunny days on the beaches of Thailand, and now you can too!
Thai Mango Smoothie Frequently Asked Questions
Thai fruit smoothies are usually much simpler than many Western smoothies. Street vendors often blend fresh fruit with ice and a little sweetener, and some add coconut milk, but they typically skip ingredients like yogurt or protein powders that are common in American smoothie shops.
Yes. If using fresh mango, add about ½ cup ice to help thicken the smoothie.
Most Thai fruit smoothies are naturally dairy free since they are usually made with fresh fruit, ice, a simple syrup, and sometimes coconut milk for extra creaminess. Some Thai drinks like Thai Milk Tea and Thai Iced Coffee do use sweetened condensed milk, or evaporated milk, but not usually in smoothies.
Smoothies are best right after blending, but you can store it in the refrigerator for a few hours and blend again before serving.
Mango provides vitamin C and fiber, and coconut milk adds richness and healthy fats. You can also adjust the sweetness to your preference by using more or less honey or syrup.
