Dom told me when he was a kiddo in primary school he took a stupid class.
In the class he learned how to cut fruit into flowers, which is popular in Thailand. I thought that sounded like an awesome class. But no, he said it was stupid because cutting fruit into flowers is a “girl’s job”.
“What?!?! A girl’s job??!” was my response.
He has come to know that Americans don’t call certain jobs “guy’s jobs” or “girl’s jobs”, but just jobs. Yet, sometimes that Thai spice still comes shining through and he slips up.
But even though he refuses to do the “girl’s job” of cutting fruit into flowers, he can cut a mean pineapple.
And he told me how he does it. Dom’s words exactly:

How to Cut a Pineapple Thai-Style
- Total Time: 15 minutes
Description
You can finally learn the coolest way in the world to cut a pineapple.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 Ripe Pineapple
- 1 Chef’s knife
- 1 Cutting board
Instructions
- Shave off the pineapple’s eyes (that is what they call the prickly parts of the pineapple in Thai, I love it) like you are peeling an apple.
- As you shave it with the knife, see where the leftover ingrown eyes remain in a diagonal spiral design.
- Cut canals through the eyes along their diagonal lines around the whole pineapple.
- Then stand the pineapple up and cut off large pieces like in the picture and leave its core.
- Cut into smaller pieces along the canals, and enjoy!

Oh, in our home there are totally “man jobs”, in my opinion at least. Dave got a good laugh when I told him that cutting meat that was still shaped like an animal (like carving a whole chicken or turkey) was a man job. Once he was done laughing and learned that I was serious, he agreed that cutting up birds would forever be a man job in our home 🙂
