Craving something creamy, refreshing, and tropical that tastes like it came straight from a Thai street market? This mango avocado smoothie is here for you! It’s naturally dairy-free and made with sweet frozen mango, buttery, ripe avocado, creamy coconut milk, and a perfect touch of honey.
What Is Mango Avocado Smoothie?
The first time I saw avocado on a smoothie menu in Thailand, I remember thinking, “Wait… avocado in a smoothie? Weird!!!” But one sip in and I was in love!
The avocado doesn’t make it taste savory, it just makes the smoothie extra creamy while letting the mango shine.
Unlike many Western smoothies, Thai fruit smoothies usually don’t use dairy. The creaminess typically comes from the fruit itself, like avocado, or coconut milk. For this version, I like to keep it simple and let the mango and avocado do the work, but you can definitely add other ingredients if you’d like. That’s one of the things I love most about smoothies, they’re so flexible!
If you enjoy Thai fruit smoothies like this one, you’ll love some of Thailand’s other popular drinks too! Thai Iced Coffee is a bold, creamy coffee sweetened with condensed milk, Thai Milk Tea is the the famous creamy, tinted orange Thai tea and Thai Green Tea is refreshing and slightly floral and one of my favs!
Why You’ll Love This Mango Avocado Smoothie Recipe
- Naturally creamy without dairy thanks to avocado
- Refreshing tropical flavor that tastes like Thailand
- Ready in about 2 minutes with a blender
- Simple ingredients you can find at any grocery store
Mango Avocado Smoothie Ingredients You’ll Need
- 1 cup frozen mango chunks – Sweet, tropical, and the star of the smoothie. Frozen mango makes the drink extra thick and cold.
- ½ cup avocado – This is what gives the smoothie its creamy texture. Use a ripe avocado for the best flavor.
- 1 cup coconut milk, or milk of choice or water– Helps everything blend smoothly. Coconut milk makes the smoothie extra creamy and tropical, but water keeps it lighter.
- 3 tbsp honey or simple syrup, or to taste – Adjust to taste depending on how sweet your mango is.
How to Make Mango Avocado Smoothie
Step 1: Add the ingredients
Place 1 cup frozen mango chunks, ½ cup avocado, and 3 tablespoons honey or simple syrup into a blender. Pour in 1 cup coconut milk (or milk of choice or water.)
Step 2: Blend until silky smooth
Blend on high speed for about 30–60 seconds (it’s usually longer than you think) until the smoothie is completely smooth and creamy. Taste and add more honey or syrup if you want it sweeter.
Step 3: Serve immediately
Pour into a tall glass and enjoy right away while it’s cold and creamy!

- Blend longer than you think: Avocado smoothies get their silky texture from blending until completely smooth.
- Serve immediately: Like most fruit smoothies, it’s best right after blending while the texture is thick and icy.
Behind the Mango Avocado Smoothie Recipe

When we’ve gone back to visit family in Thailand over the past few years, we’re always on the lookout for new popular Thai dishes. Some of them we fall in love with, others we don’t, lol, but we definitely love mango avocado smoothies!
Avocados weren’t common in Thailand when my Thai Hubby was growing up. They’ve only become more popular in recent years as the avocado trend spread around the world. Farmers in northern Thailand began growing them since the cooler mountain climate is perfect for avocados. As demand grew, more trees were planted, and now you’ll see avocados popping up in markets and cafés all over Thailand.
I was hesitant the first time I saw mango and avocado together on a smoothie menu. My favorite way to eat avocado is on toast for lunch or mashed into guacamole with tortilla chips, not blended into a sweet fruit drink!
But after my first sip, I was in love! The avocado doesn’t make it taste savory like I expected it would. Instead, it gives the smoothie a creamy, milkshake-like texture while letting the mango flavor shine.
Now whenever avocado season rolls around, this is one of the first things I make. It reminds me of wandering through Thai markets with a cold smoothie in hand and that delightful feeling of discovering something new and yummy around every corner.
